The investigation regarding the suspects accused of beating and killing police officer Melih Okan Keskin at the TÜVTÜRK inspection station has been completed.

TÜVTÜRK EMPLOYEES ASSAULTED THE POLICE OFFICER

INVESTIGATION COMPLETED

The investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed, and an indictment was prepared against four suspects, two of whom are in custody, for the crime of 'causing death as a result of intentional injury,' with a request for up to 14 years in prison. The indictment accepted by the court stated that Melih Okan Keskin could not pass the vehicle inspection due to the stop light not working, and that he argued with the station staff by protesting this situation, and according to the suspect statements, he yelled and cursed. As the argument escalated, the suspects Y.K. and R.G. present at the scene pushed Melih Okan Keskin outside, during which other employees also moved outside, and it was reported that Y.K. hit Keskin by jumping, while R.G. intervened by pushing him. It was further noted that Murat Y. was identified through camera footage and witness statements as having punched Keskin, and after the crowd dispersed, Saruhan A. lightly hit Keskin's leg with his vehicle, then got out of the vehicle and punched him, causing Keskin to lose his balance. It was explained that police teams arrived at the scene, and Keskin went to the hospital in his own vehicle after a while, was transferred from Ankara Oncology Hospital to Gazi University Hospital, and passed away on February 5.

THE INDICTMENT ALSO INCLUDED A REPORT

The indictment also included the forensic report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institution. The report stated that Keskin presented to the hospital with complaints of head and jaw pain due to the injuries sustained from the assault on February 2, underwent surgery at Gazi University Hospital to drain the intracranial hemorrhage, was admitted to the intensive care unit after the surgery, and that damage occurred in the brain tissue adjacent to the intracranial hemorrhage, and despite the interventions, he passed away on February 5. The report indicated that Keskin's death was due to intracranial hemorrhage resulting from blunt head trauma, that there was a causal link between the assault and the death, and that no other cause of death was identified. The report also stated that according to the camera footage, there was no causal link between the assault that occurred at 17:46 and Keskin's death, but that a direct causal link was established between the punch thrown by Saruhan A. at 17:49 and the death.

“THEY ACTED IN CONCERT AND COORDINATION”

The indictment noted that suspect Saruhan A. admitted to punching Keskin, which was corroborated by camera footage and witness statements, while the other suspects Murat Y., R.G., and Y.K. did not accept the accusations, but it was recorded that they acted in concert and coordination during the incident, contributing to the execution of the act by breaking the victim's resistance, and therefore they were deemed jointly responsible. The prosecution requested that all suspects be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison for the crime of 'causing death as a result of intentional injury.' The prosecution also decided not to pursue charges against B.B.İ., the assistant manager of the vehicle inspection station mentioned in the incident, for 'causing death as a result of intentional injury,' and against the deceased police officer Melih Okan Keskin for 'threat, insult, and simple injury.'
