The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses (CTE) reported that all procedures regarding the conditional release of Veysi Aktaş, a convicted member of the separatist terrorist organization PKK, held in the Imralı F-Type High Security Closed Prison, were carried out within the framework of execution legislation and judicial decisions, and that no privileges were applied.

In the video message where the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, announced that PKK had disbanded, Veysi Aktaş, a convicted member of the PKK terrorist organization, who was sitting on his left, was released from Imralı Prison after 31 years and 3 months.

COMPLETED 30-YEAR SENTENCE

Aktaş, who completed his 30 years in prison, legally completed the execution of his 30-year sentence on April 28, 2024. However, Aktaş's release was first postponed by the Administration and Monitoring Board for 1 year and then for an additional 3 months. Aktaş, whose release was postponed by 1 year and 3 months, was released from Imralı Prison on July 25.

STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTORATE OF PRISONS AND DETENTION HOUSES

On the other hand, the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses (CTE) responded to the reactions following Aktaş's release with a statement.

In the statement made by the Directorate, it was noted that there was a need for the public to be accurately informed regarding the news and shares made in some press and social media outlets stating, "Veysi Aktaş, a convicted member of the PKK terrorist organization held in Imralı Prison, has been released."

"NO PRIVILEGES OR EXCEPTIONS HAVE BEEN APPLIED"

It was reminded in the statement that Veysi Aktaş, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for "attempting to separate part of the territory under the sovereignty of the state from the administration of the state" (Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code), entered the penal institution on May 11, 1994, and was transferred to the Imralı F-Type High Security Closed Prison on March 17, 2015. The statement included the following remarks:

"The convict serving a life sentence in the Imralı F-Type High Security Closed Prison had his good conduct assessment rejected three times by the administration and monitoring board, despite the expiration of the 30-year conditional release period. After approximately 32 years in the penal institution, a decision was made for his conditional release following the assessment conducted on July 25, 2025. At the time of the convict's release, there was no existing disciplinary penalty, and all procedures were carried out within the framework of execution legislation and judicial decisions, with no privileges or exceptions applied. Disinformation comments and perception operations conducted on some social media platforms should not be taken into account."

DEM PARTY'S VISIT TO IMRALI

In addition to Aktaş's release, another development occurred today. Following a group from the PKK terrorist organization laying down their arms, the DEM Party delegation, which visited Imralı for the first time, made a statement regarding the visit.

The delegation, which conveyed a message from the leader of the PKK terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan, stated, "We expect the commission work on the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to make significant contributions to peace and democracy in a comprehensive and inclusive manner."
