ROYAL CEREMONY HELD IN BANGKOK
Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand, who passed away recently, was bid farewell with a royal funeral ceremony held in the capital Bangkok.
The body of the 47-year-old princess, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, was taken from Chulalongkorn Hospital, where she was receiving treatment, to the Grand Palace in an official cortege.
THOUSANDS FLOODED THE STREETS
Thousands of Thais, dressed in black due to national mourning, gathered on the streets of Bangkok to watch the funeral cortege. Citizens stood in respect as the cortege, including King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida, passed by.
KING AND QUEEN COULD NOT HOLD BACK TEARS
Government officials, senior state officers, and members of the royal family attended the funeral ceremony held at the Royal Palace.
During the ceremony, King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida were seen experiencing emotional moments and unable to hold back their tears.
15-DAY NATIONAL MOURNING IN THE COUNTRY
The Thai government declared a 15-day national mourning period across the country due to the princess's death. As part of this, flags at public institutions were lowered to half-staff.
It was also announced that a public condolence area would be set up at the Royal Palace for citizens to convey their condolences.
SHE HAD BEEN UNDER TREATMENT FOR FOUR YEARS
Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol fell into a coma after suffering a heart condition in December 2022. After approximately four years of treatment, she passed away on June 11.
