Mario Ernesto Sánchez was best known for his role as a limousine driver in the Miami Vice series, and he gained great acclaim for portraying a Colombian drug lord in the Christmas special episode titled Miami Twice of the Only Fools and Horses series. Sánchez's last role was in the TV series Jammerz in 2022. Prior to that, he had also appeared in the HBO adaptation of the hit film Father of the Bride.

Sánchez left a significant cultural legacy by founding the non-profit theater organization Teatro Avante in 1978, which focused on preserving Spanish theater and culture.
