The last meeting of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) discussed the proposal for a 35% increase in transportation fares in Istanbul. The increase also affected school bus fees. THE 35% INCREASE ALSO AFFECTED SCHOOL BUS FEESAdditionally, the fee for school buses for the 0-1 kilometer range has become 2605 TL. The new prices will come into effect on January 18. TAKSI AND MINIBUS FEES HAVE ALSO INCREASEDThe proposal accepted by UKOME also included changes to taxi and minibus fares. The taxi meter starting fee has been raised by 40% from 30 TL to 42 TL, and the distance tariff has also seen a 40% increase. The short distance fare for taxis has increased from 100 TL to 135 TL with a 35% rise. The boarding fee for minibuses has increased from 18 TL to 25 TL due to the increase. In school buses, the fee for the 0-1 kilometer range has also become 2605 TL. IMM'S 46% INCREASE REQUEST WAS REJECTEDThe Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) met on January 6 under the chairmanship of IMM Secretary General Assistant Gürkan Akgün. During the meeting held at the Çırpıcı Social Facilities with the agenda of increasing public transportation fares, IMM proposed a 46.09% increase in fares for public transportation vehicles, taxis, school, and personnel services. Serdar Yücel, the 1st Regional Director of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that this proposal was not acceptable.
