The penalty given to Yusuf Ündeş, who killed his estranged wife and mother-in-law with a shotgun in Zonguldak, has been determined. The court sentenced Ündeş to two consecutive aggravated life imprisonment terms for the crimes of "premeditated murder of a spouse and a woman."

A blood-curdling incident occurred on December 24, 2025, in Şirinköy Çalca neighborhood of Kilimli district in Zonguldak. Tülay Ündeş (45) and her mother Zaide Alkaç (64) were returning from visiting a sick relative when they encountered Yusuf Ündeş (46) on a bridge near their home. Yusuf Ündeş, who was in the process of divorcing Tülay Ündeş, pointed a rifle he retrieved from his car and opened fire on his wife and mother-in-law. The mother and daughter collapsed in a pool of blood, while Yusuf Ündeş fled. Tülay Ündeş and Zaide Alkaç lost their lives, and Yusuf Ündeş was captured in the Kilimli district. The verdict hearing of the case was held today at the Zonguldak 2nd Heavy Penal Court. The detained defendant, the three sons of the deceased Tülay Ündeş, her father, and the attorneys were present in the courtroom.

"DON'T PIT MY SON AGAINST ME"

Taking the floor, defendant Yusuf Ündeş said, "I didn't want this to happen, I am very sorry. I told them many times, 'Don't test me with my son.' On the day of the incident, I begged them, 'Don't provoke my son against me, don't make him a patricide.' When they said 'You will die,' I blacked out, I don't remember what happened. I am very sorry, very sad. I would have liked to live and travel with my grandchildren, I am a father too. I am so sorry. If you had heard my witnesses, you would side with me." The court president stated that they had rejected the request to hear witnesses and asked the defendant to make his final statement. The defendant replied, "You decide."

NO DISCRETIONARY REDUCTION IN SENTENCE

The court panel decided to sentence Yusuf Ündeş, who killed his wife and mother-in-law, to two aggravated life sentences for the crime of 'Intentional homicide against a spouse and a woman.' The court president stated that they did not apply a discretionary reduction because the defendant did not show sincere remorse. As the defendant was secretly removed from the courthouse, relatives of the deceased protested against him, and police teams took security measures.

"WE WERE NOT PROTECTED"

After the hearing, Halil Alkaç (66), father of the murdered Tülay Ündeş and husband of Zaide Alkaç, said, "Despite my daughter having a restraining order, we repeatedly filed complaints with the Zonguldak and Çaycuma prosecutor's offices and the Kilimli and Central District Commands with threat messages. We were ignored. This death was foreseeable. We were not protected. I have nothing to lose, nothing to gain. I've already lost what I could lose. On one side, my wife of 50 years; on the other, my 45-year-old daughter. My wife contracted leukemia and survived stage 4 leukemia. She said, 'I will live for my children.' My children did not deserve such a death. We overcame everyone, but we couldn't overcome this. The verdict and the sentence won't bring our dead back. But it will ease our hearts a bit. I absolutely do not want his body to come to that village. I will make the necessary applications. He came to court with his hair dyed, his hair and beard were pure white. Did he do it to avoid recognition? I don't know." Meanwhile, security camera footage of the incident, which was also entered into the court file, has emerged.
