Increasing rent prices have created a new market beyond the need for housing. It has been observed that some residential properties in the city, which are not actually inhabited, are rented out for a monthly fee solely for the purpose of having a residence address, school registration, and job applications. In this practice, the houses are not used as living spaces, while official transactions are conducted based on the address information.
RENTING A RESIDENCE FOR 2500 TL PER MONTH
According to the information obtained, the cost of renting a residence can go up to approximately 2,500 lira per month. This figure, which corresponds to the average rent of a residential property in Ankara a few years ago, now represents a symbolic use of an address. The average rents in the city approaching 25,000 lira particularly drive low-income groups towards such solutions.
MOSTLY REQUESTED FOR SCHOOL OR JOB
According to a report by İlke Çıtır from Nefes Newspaper, the most common areas of use for this practice include school registrations and job applications that require specific provincial or district conditions. Some citizens prefer this method to register their children in schools outside their own address areas, while it is stated that the address information is also decisive in temporary public positions, subcontracted jobs, and employment areas related to municipalities. Furthermore, it is noted that some immigrants, who are required to show an official address but cannot find actual housing, have also resorted to renting a residence.
