The false spring across Turkey is coming to an end; as temperatures rapidly drop with the weekend and the new week, light snow is expected in many cities, especially in Istanbul, following sleet. The meteorology department has issued a yellow code warning for 20 provinces, stating that winter cold will once again be effective starting from Thrace.
Turkey is entering a new wave of cold and rainy weather. The false spring that has dominated the country will give way to winter cold over the weekend and the first days of the new week. According to the latest forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology, temperatures in Istanbul will drop significantly. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) reported that sleet is expected first, followed by light snow in the new week.
THE HARSH WINTER IS COMING BACK
According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), Turkey is entering a new cold and rainy weather pattern. It is expected that the spring weather that has been effective across the country will give way to winter again starting from the weekend. Rainfall is expected to be effective today in the majority of the western provinces. Heavy rainfall is predicted in the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Western Black Sea, the north and west of Central Anatolia, the west of Southeastern Anatolia, as well as around Nevşehir and Karaman. Snowfall is anticipated in the southeastern part of Eastern Anatolia.
YELLOW CODE WARNING FOR 20 PROVINCES
The meteorology has issued a yellow code warning for 20 provinces. Strong downpours and storms are expected in these provinces. The listed provinces are: Afyonkarahisar, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Burdur, Bursa, Çanakkale, Denizli, Edirne, Eskişehir, Isparta, İzmir, Karaman, Kırklareli, Konya, Kütahya, Manisa, Muğla, Uşak
WE WILL FREEZE IN THE NEW WEEK
Starting from Monday, it is expected that the weather will begin to cool down, starting from Thrace, and snow will return. The air temperature, which is around 12 degrees in Kırklareli and Edirne today, is expected to drop to as low as 1 degree below zero on Monday. In Istanbul, where temperatures have reached 15 degrees, it is expected that the air temperature will decrease to 5 degrees at the beginning of the week.
LIGHT SNOW ON TUESDAY
Due to a further drop in temperature expected on Tuesday, light snow is also expected in Istanbul. In the city, where the air temperature is expected to drop to 0 degrees on Wednesday, partly cloudy and slightly cloudy weather is anticipated to be effective.
