26-year-old Sevcan Demir Sakman, who was killed with a machete by her husband Halit Can Sakman, a nurse like herself, two months after their wedding in Antalya, was laid to rest in her hometown of Hatay. Women carried Sakman's coffin.
On March 9, at around 21:30, an incident occurred in an apartment on 6579 Street in the Gazi neighborhood of the Kepez district, where Halit Can and Sevcan Demir Sakman, a couple who got married two months ago, argued over financial problems during the afternoon.
HE KILLED WITH A CLEAVER
When Halit Can Sakman returned home in the evening, another argument broke out between the parties. Halit Can Sakman struck Sevcan Demir Sakman, whom he claimed attacked him with a knife, with a cleaver. Upon receiving a report from neighbors, police and medical teams were dispatched to the address. It was determined that Sakman had lost his life during the check. It was established that Halit Can Sakman killed his wife and then placed the cleaver on his own throat.
THE KILLER ALSO CUT HIS OWN NECK
After the investigation, the lifeless body of Sevcan Demir Sakman was taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for autopsy. Halit Can Sakman surrendered to the Antalya Police Department's Homicide Bureau teams at the house. Sakman, who had a cut on his neck, was taken to Antalya City Hospital.
AFTER THE MURDER, HE CALLED HIS FRIEND
Police teams consulted Halit Can Sakman's friend H.E. H.E. stated that Sakman video-called him after the incident, saying he had killed his wife and that he was also injured. H.E. mentioned that there was blood on the floor as he saw through the camera and that he immediately called the 112 Emergency Call Center to report.
HE HAD CRIED OUT
Havva Ünay, the mother of Sevcan Demir Sakman, who lives in Silifke district of Mersin, came to Antalya with her relatives after hearing about the incident. Ünay, who was seen experiencing great sorrow in front of the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute in the morning hours, cried out, "How will I endure this, they have mutilated my child."
WOMEN CARRIED THE FUNERAL
After the procedures, the body of Sevcan Demir Sakman, which was handed over to her relatives, was brought to her hometown, İskenderun in Hatay. A ceremony was held for Sakman at the İskenderun Cemevi. Her mother Havva Ünay, father Günay Demir, brother Ekin Demir, relatives, and many others attended the ceremony.
Günay Demir, who embraced his daughter's coffin, wept, saying, "They cut my daughter." Ekin, who was crying and kissing the coffin, cried out, "Sister." Ekin's father tried to comfort him by caressing his face. After the prayer, women carried Sakman's coffin. Sakman's body was buried in Çankaya Cemetery.
