Yesterday morning around 08:30, 16-year-old E.B., who carried out an attack with a shotgun on the Salih İşgören Police Station in Balçova, killed 2 police officers and injured 2 others. The assailant was neutralized and taken into custody with injuries immediately after the incident.
27 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY As part of the extensive investigation launched after the incident, E.B.'s parents were also taken into custody for their statements, while a total of 27 suspects identified as being connected to the assailant were detained. E.B.'s father, N.B., stated in his testimony that his son had exhibited radical behaviors in recent times.
GUN MAINTENANCE KITS FOUND IN HIS ROOM Gun cleaning kits used for weapon maintenance were found in E.B.'s room. Additionally, some books in his room also drew attention. It was understood that E.B. had cleaned his weapon in this room before the attack.
GRANDFATHER SPOKE: HE CLEANED THE GUN HERE On the other hand, 16-year-old assailant E.B.'s 85-year-old grandfather, Hamza Bigül, said that his grandson was a very calm child and that he did not expect him to do such a thing.
The grandfather, who also recounted what he experienced during the incident, said, "My grandson was staying with us and was sleeping here. I was at home, and when I heard the gunshots, his little brother woke up scared from where he was lying. I looked out the window with my son. I didn't even see that our police chief had been martyred. Then we realized when we saw the tape being drawn. After that, we were shocked. I don't know why he did it. He didn't have any strange behaviors in my opinion in recent days, but his mother said he had been acting differently. The books he read are here. The gun cleaning kits are here; I don't know. He must have done it here. I didn't see if the gun was here, let me not lie. He must have cleaned it here, of course. He was a very calm child; I was surprised when he did this. I was very saddened for our martyrs. My grandson was also injured; how can I not be sad? I don't know where he found the equipment and bullets he had on him. He was probably interested in weapons.
