ANTI-AMERICAN SLOGANS IN THE STREETS OF TEHRAN

Participants gathered at demonstrations in the capital Tehran protested U.S. policies toward Iran. As every year, this year too the anniversary of the embassy seizure was commemorated as one of the symbols of historical tension between Iran and the United States.

It drew attention that the demonstrations coincided with a period when U.S. Republican President Donald Trump's party suffered significant losses in the midterm elections.

THE 1979 EMBASSY SEIZURE WAS RECALLED

On November 4, 1979, Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took 52 Americans hostage. The hostages were held for 444 days. The incident became one of the decisive developments in the severing of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

IT CAME RIGHT AFTER THE U.S. ELECTIONS
