A 12-year-old boy, M.K., who shot the school principal in Mersin, and his father, who was detained on charges of instigation, were arrested by the magistrate court.
A 12-year-old student who shot the school principal in Anamur district of Mersin and his father, who was detained for instigation, were arrested by the duty magistrate court.
The incident occurred around 08:30 in the morning yesterday in the garden of Çarıklar Rüştü Kazım Yücelen Middle School located in Çarıklar neighborhood of the district. According to allegations, M.K. (12) quickly approached the school principal Ender Kara (39), who was sitting in front of the school, and fired a gun at him.
TEAMS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE AREA
Upon notification, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. Kara, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Gendarmerie teams detained the child at the school. The unlicensed gun used in the incident was seized, and the father Y.K. (55) was also detained upon the instruction of the Anamur Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
FATHER AND SON ARRESTED
After their statements were taken at the prosecutor's office, the father and son were referred to the duty magistrate for attempted murder due to the public duty performed by the victim and instigation. The suspect father was charged with instigation, while the son was arrested by the court for attempted murder.
THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE HAD MADE A STATEMENT REGARDING THE INCIDENT
The Mersin Governor's Office stated in a press release regarding the incident; "On December 22, 2025, at around 08:30, in Çarıklar Rüştü Kazım Yücelen Middle School located in Çarıklar neighborhood of Anamur district, a student named M.K. shot the school principal E.K. in the abdominal area with a gun in the school garden. The injured school principal E.K. was immediately taken to the hospital, and his treatment is ongoing. The student who committed the act has been detained, and judicial and administrative investigations have been initiated regarding the matter." Furthermore, it was reported that the school principal, who was transferred to a hospital in Mersin, is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
