Details have begun to emerge regarding the death of 44-year-old Biology teacher Fatma Nur Çelik, who was stabbed to death by her 17-year-old student F.S.B. in Istanbul. It has been revealed that the killer student was involved in a fight at school last year, and that teacher Fatma warned her colleagues about student F.S.B., stating, "We do not feel safe."
New details have emerged regarding the heartbreaking incident in which 44-year-old Biology teacher Fatma Nur Çelik was fatally injured in a knife attack at Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Çekmeköy, Istanbul.
THE KILLER PLANNED TO KILL THE TEACHER
F.S.B., a 11th-grade student at Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Çekmeköy Taşdelen, was released from Bakırköy Mazhar Osman Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital by his father two days ago. After leaving the hospital, the suspect allegedly checked the school's class schedule to find out when and in which classroom the targeted teacher would be, and made plans accordingly.
THE SERIOUSLY INJURED TEACHER COULD NOT BE SAVED
F.S.B. arrived at school in the morning and headed directly to the classroom. Around 11:00, the attacker entered the classroom and first attacked teacher Fatma Nur Çelik with a knife. During the panic in the classroom, a 15-year-old student S.K. and teacher Z.A. were also injured while trying to intervene. It was reported that the teacher was taken to a safe area by the school's guidance counselor during the attack, while the suspect attempted to open the door. F.S.B. was detained by police teams who arrived at the school following a tip-off, while the injured were taken to the hospital by health teams. Despite all efforts, Fatma Nur Çelik, who was seriously injured, passed away. It was learned that the other teacher Z.A. and student S.K. were not in life-threatening condition.
A NOTE SHARED FOR HER SON BROUGHT TEARS
It was learned that Fatma Nur Çelik had a child in the 5th grade of primary school, and she shared the following note for her son on her YouTube account:
"I want to document my efforts and, if I have enough time, tell my son, 'Look, we went through these paths together'... I never received music education; I just wanted to publish what I tried to learn by listening... Thanks to those who supported me..."
EDUCATION-BIR-SEN DECIDES TO STRIKE
Ali Yalçın, the General President of Education-Bir-Sen, announced on his social media account that they would go on a one-day strike in educational institutions in Istanbul today to draw attention to school safety and to protest against violence.
WARNED "WE HAVE NO SAFETY"
According to a report by IHA, it was learned that the suspect was involved in another fight at school last year, and that the late teacher Fatma Nur Çelik had previously stated in a disciplinary board meeting that "We have no safety" regarding the attacker.
WON FIRST PLACE IN A SINGING COMPETITION
According to a report by DHA, it was learned that Çelik participated in the regional final of an inter-school singing competition during her university years and won first place. It was revealed that Çelik shared a rehearsal recording found in a friend's archive on her social media account years later.
In her post, she was seen saying, "From the regional final of the inter-university singing competition. I won first place with this piece, and a friend of mine had a rehearsal recording. It's hard to believe it's a 20-year-old recording. I can't express how happy I was."
MINISTER GÜRLEK'S CONDOLENCE MESSAGE
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek published a condolence message for teacher Fatma Nur Çelik, who lost her life in the attack carried out by a high school student in Çekmeköy, stating, "The process is being conducted in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner. Those responsible will be held accountable before the law.
The loss of a valuable teacher who left us while performing her duty has deeply saddened not only her family but also the entire education community and our nation. I pray for the mercy of Almighty Allah for our teacher Fatma Nur; I wish patience and condolences to her grieving family, relatives, students, and the National Education community. I also wish urgent healing for our injured student and teacher. I extend my best wishes to our education community and our nation," he said.
MEB: AN INVESTIGATION AND INQUIRY HAS BEEN INITIATED
In a statement made by the Ministry of National Education, it was stated: "On March 2, 2026, as a result of an attack carried out by a student at Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Taşdelen, Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, two of our teachers and one of our students were injured. The injured were immediately transferred to health institutions, and necessary medical interventions were made by health personnel. Our Biology Teacher Fatma Nur Çelik, who was taken to the hospital in serious condition, passed away despite all efforts.
The treatments of our other injured teacher and student are ongoing, and they are not in life-threatening condition.
Following this tragic incident, our Ministry has initiated an administrative investigation and inquiry, and an education inspector has been assigned to the matter. Both the judicial and administrative processes will be meticulously followed by our relevant units. Additionally, guidance and psychological support services are being provided to our students at the mentioned school. We pray for the mercy of Allah for our valuable teacher who lost her life, and we express our condolences to her family, students, and education community, wishing urgent healing for our injured teacher and student. We will continue to work decisively to ensure the safety of educational environments and to prevent similar incidents from occurring again," it was stated.
