In the Serik district of Antalya, 25-year-old Cüneyt Akkanat drowned while swimming in the Köprüçay River with his friends. The young man's lifeless body, captured in his last moments by a mobile phone camera, was retrieved from the water by a municipal officer.
A young man, along with 2 friends, entered the Köprüçay River in the Serik district of Antalya and drowned in front of his friends and picnickers, losing his life.
The incident occurred around 6:00 PM at the Şahin Tepesi picnic area in the Sarıabalı neighborhood. 25-year-old Cüneyt Akkanat, who came to the area to have a picnic with his 2 friends, entered the Köprüçay River to cool off.
HIS LAST MOMENTS ON CAMERA
After a while, citizens who saw Akkanat struggling in the water tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful. The young man's attempts to stay afloat were recorded by citizens on the beach using their mobile phones.
TEAMS RECOVERED HIS BODY
Upon notification, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene. Ahmet Seçim, a municipal officer on duty at the picnic area, entered the river and pulled Akkanat out of the water. It was determined that the young man had died after being taken to the ambulance by health teams. The commotion that occurred while the young man was being pulled out of the water was recorded by the officer's body camera. Officer Ahmet Seçim stated, "We arrived at the scene upon notification. Since we had diving experience and were familiar with the area, we entered the river based on the information we received from witnesses. We found and retrieved the young man at the first point we dove in and handed him over to the health teams."
