Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that the transit fee collected from international ships passing through the Turkish Straits will be increased from $5.83 to $6.70 (311 TL) per net ton as of July 1. With this regulation, aiming to increase the state's foreign currency revenues, the income from strait transits is expected to reach $254 million in the upcoming period.

STRAIT TRANSIT FEES ARE BEING UPDATED
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced a new regulation regarding transit fees collected from international vessels passing through the Turkish Straits without calling at any port.
Uraloğlu stated that within the scope of the tariffs updated annually on July 1, the fee per net ton for vessels will be increased from $5.83 applied in 2025 to $6.70, and the new tariff will come into effect as of July 1, 2026.
INCREASE BEGINNING AFTER 39 YEARS CONTINUES
Minister Uraloğlu reminded that the calculation of fees collected under the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits is based on the gold franc and the net tonnage of vessels.
Uraloğlu noted that from 1983 until 2022, a fee of $0.80 per net ton was collected, and with the regulation made after 39 years, the fee was first increased to $4.08, then gradually raised to $4.42, $5.07, and $5.83.
STATE'S FOREIGN EXCHANGE REVENUE WILL INCREASE
Uraloğlu stated that fees are collected from international vessels transiting the Turkish Straits for health inspection, lighthouse, and salvage services, and emphasized that the updates increase the state's foreign exchange revenues.
REVENUE TARGET OF $254 MILLION
Minister Uraloğlu announced that the revenue from vessel transits was $38 million in the period from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022, and rose to $223 million in the period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.
Uraloğlu stated that the revenue expected to be generated from the Turkish Straits between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 is anticipated to reach approximately $254 million, and expressed that the regulations will bring significant foreign exchange to the country.
