Galatasaray was eliminated from the tournament and bid farewell to Europe after drawing 2-2 with AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 play-off at RAMS Park. Following the final whistle of the match, the Turkish Football Federation, with which the yellow-reds have recently experienced tension due to the referee of the derby, made a statement.

WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN GALATASARAY AND TFF

Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu invited the presidents of the two clubs to meet in Riva before the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby. The president of the yellow-reds, Dursun Özbek, found this invitation insincere and rejected it. Later, Hacıosmanoğlu, who organized a meeting, responded to Özbek's "insincere" remarks by announcing that a foreign referee would officiate the big match. Following this, Galatasaray released a statement raising three questions to the federation after the name Slavko Vincic came to the forefront. Cimbom also objected to the federation due to Vincic being born in Maribor, Slovenia, owned by Acun Ilıcalı, and Ilıcalı's close relations with UEFA President Ceferin, who is a citizen of the 45-year-old referee. TFF rejected this objection and announced today that the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby would be officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic.
