The verified advertisement system approved by e-Government, implemented by the Ministry of Trade, aims to prevent fake listings and price inflation issues in the second-hand car market. Industry representatives state that the system will protect buyers and reduce unregistered trade.

The "verified advertisement system" approved by e-Government, introduced to combat issues of "fake listings" and "price bubbles" in the second-hand car market, is said by industry representatives to protect buyers and establish a more realistic market. To prevent unregistered commercial activities in the automotive sector, the Ministry of Trade has started implementing "authorization verification" through the Electronic Vehicle Advertisement Verification System (EAVVS) for vehicle listings as of April 1. With this regulation, it has become mandatory for those engaged in the trade of second-hand motor vehicles to obtain an authorization certificate from the Ministry.

NOW NOT EVERYONE CAN POST ADS

Vehicle listings on sales portals can only be posted by the vehicle owner, their first and second-degree relatives, or licensed businesses authorized by the vehicle owner. Vehicle owners must authorize car dealership businesses to post ads through e-Government. This application aims to prevent fake listings, speculative price increases, and consumer grievances in the real estate and second-hand vehicle sectors.

"THE SYSTEM PREVENTS EXORBITANT PRICES"

Aydın Erkoç, the President of the Federation of Motor Vehicle Dealers (MASFED), stated in his evaluation of the issue that individuals without an authorization certificate can no longer post ads through portals. Erkoç pointed out that, as with any new system transition, there may be some disruptions during the ad verification compliance process, saying, "We have fought for this for years. Especially after the pandemic, exorbitant prices had emerged in the market due to production issues, and this system prevents exorbitant prices. When new cars are sold at high prices, second-hand cars are also sold at new prices. Most of these transactions were done without an authorization certificate and without proper listings." he said.

"BOTH CONSUMERS AND TRADESPEOPLE WILL BE PROTECTED"

Erkoç emphasized that the system will protect both consumers and tradespeople, adding that since the system will also prevent unregistered activities, it will ensure that the tax system operates more accurately. He expressed that the sector has been waiting for such a regulation for years, stating: "Everyone except us was doing this job tax-free as a second or third profession. Now, those who were doing it as a second or third profession will disappear. Only those with a real authorization certificate will do this job, and our profession will reach the places it deserves, which is a very positive development for our tradespeople."

CITIZENS ARE BUYING VEHICLES AT REAL PRICES

Ömer Göktaş, the owner of an automotive company, pointed out that most of the ads posted before the ad verification system were fake listings created to inflate prices in the market, explaining that malicious individuals caused price fluctuations in the market. Göktaş stated that this situation has been addressed with the new system, saying, "You have a car, and for you to post this car on portals, it needs to go through certain stages. You need to approve it from e-Government, enter the car's license plate, and prove that the car's registration is indeed under your name. When all of these are approved, the ad becomes a real ad." he said.

"BUBBLE AND EXORBITANT PRICE PRACTICES HAVE DISAPPEARED"

Göktaş emphasized that the ad system is an important gain for dealers, making the following evaluations: "There was a false perception that 'dealers raised prices' with every price increase. The fake fluctuations in the market also affected dealers. With the new system, dealers are selling cars at reasonable levels with real ads and correct pricing. As with any system, there is an initial period of adjustment, but the system is currently running smoothly. I would like to thank the Ministry of Trade very much. With the new system, bubble and exorbitant price practices have disappeared, and now citizens are buying vehicles at real prices.
