WHAT HAPPENED?
India conducted missile strikes on Pakistani territory and the Azad Kashmir region controlled by Pakistan on May 6, citing retaliation for a terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region on April 22 that killed 31 people. The Indian army announced that it hit 9 targets, which it described as "terrorist structures," while the Islamabad administration reported that 6 civilian locations were targeted in the attacks, resulting in 31 fatalities.
The Pakistan army stated that it shot down 5 fighter jets during the Indian side's attack, while the New Delhi administration did not confirm this. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the military operations as the "Sindoor Operation" during a cabinet meeting he chaired, describing the operation as a "moment of pride." According to the Hindi dictionary, the word "Sindoor" means "the red powder applied to the foreheads of married Hindu women."
