White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated regarding Spain, "I think they heard Trump's message clearly and distinctly yesterday. They agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military."
JET DENIAL FROM SPAIN
Following Leavitt's statement, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares categorically denied the remarks. Speaking to the Spanish press, Albares said, "The Spanish government's position on the war in the Middle East, the bombings in Iran, and the use of our bases has not changed."
"SPAIN IS A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY"
Albares stated that he had "no idea" what Leavitt was referring to, saying, "There is an agreement, a bilateral understanding, and outside the framework of this bilateral agreement, there will be no use of Spain's sovereign bases. Spain is a sovereign country that makes its own foreign policy decisions." Albares expressed that he was not concerned about Trump's threat, stating, "Any pressure on Spain is pressure on all Europeans, and we have their solidarity."
TRUMP HAD OPENLY THREATENED
U.S. President Trump had threatened Spain with 'embargo', stating that Spain had closed its bases for use in attacks against Iran. Trump said, "Spain is in terrible shape right now. I told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to cut all commercial ties with Spain."
REST RESPONSE FROM PEDRO SANCHEZ
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez responded, "The Iran War has made the world a more insecure place. We are against this disaster. We are against war. The war in Iran will not provide a fairer international order. We will work together for peace and diplomacy with the countries in the region. Humanity's disaster begins this way. The fate of millions of people should not be played with Russian roulette."
