WHAT HAPPENED?The villagers who opposed the 'Accommodated Recreation Area Project' planned to be built in Cankurtaran area of Çifteköprü village between Artvin Hopa and Borçka districts protested the arrival of construction vehicles to the area. A dispute arose between the villagers and the officials of the private company that would carry out the tree cutting when the construction vehicles were unloaded. As the argument turned into a fight, Muhammet Ustabaş, one of the officials of the contracting company, fired at the villagers with a gun. Reşit Kibar, Gökhan Koyuncu (38) and Ersan Koyuncu (36) were injured by the bullets. Reşit Kibar, who was taken to Hopa State Hospital and underwent surgery, could not be saved. ONE PERSON ARRESTEDMuhammet Ustabaş, who fired with a gun, and Fikret M., the owner of the licensed weapon used in the crime and an employee of the company, were detained by the gendarmerie. After the interrogations at the gendarmerie, Muhammet Ustabaş was arrested while Fikret M. was released under judicial control.
