The Star Wars poster designed in 1977 was sold at auction for $3.875 million. This made it the most valuable poster in the entire film industry. The previous record was held by Darth Vader's lightsaber from the Star Wars films, which sold for $3.6 million.

The iconic poster promoting the Star Wars film, introduced 50 years ago, was sold at auction for $3.875 million.

The poster was created by renowned artist and poster designer Tom Jung in 1977 using acrylic and airbrush techniques. The work was put up for sale at Heritage Auctions in the United States.

Displayed just two weeks before the film's release, the poster garnered significant interest from cinema enthusiasts of the time and has since become one of the most valuable film posters of all time.

Thus, the poster, which was initially offered for sale at $1 million, became the highest-priced piece related to the "Star Wars" series and the most valuable poster work in the entire film industry. The previous record belonged to Darth Vader's lightsaber from the "Star Wars" films, which sold for $3.6 million.

It is noted that the poster was hanging in producer Gary Kurtz's office and was later put up for sale by his family.

Additionally, the poster features a composition where Luke Skywalker raises his lightsaber, with Princess Leia behind him, and a silhouette of Darth Vader above.

GLOBAL FANBASE DRIVES UP SALE PRICE

On the other side of the poster, the scene depicts Han Solo and Skywalker receiving medals while X-wing fighters launch an attack.

Heritage Auctions officials pointed out that the piece is not only a film memorabilia but also an important part of American pop culture, noting that the global fanbase of the "Star Wars" series is among the factors driving up the sale price.
