In the trial of Serdar Karamus, who killed his 29-year-old wife Gözde Karamus during their divorce proceedings in Izmir, a young woman who was a colleague of the victim testified. H.Y. stated in her testimony, "The defendant had come into the store many times and said he wanted to talk to Gözde. When he first came, he had caused a scene. Gözde had told me that she was beaten with a cable by Serdar Karamus."
In the trial of Serdar Karamus, who killed his wife Gözde Karamus during their divorce proceedings and then attempted suicide, witness statements were taken.
The incident occurred on December 21, 2023, around 18:00 at Sedat Kahraman Park in Yalı Mahallesi, 6434 Sokak. Unemployed Serdar Karamus intercepted his wife, Gözde Karamus, who worked for a textile company. After a while, Serdar Karamus fired four shots with a gun, hitting his wife in the back and head. Karamus then placed the same gun under his chin and pulled the trigger once more. While Gözde Karamus lost her life, injured Serdar Karamus was detained and arrested after receiving treatment.
REQUEST FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT
With the indictment prepared by the Karşıyaka Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a case was opened against Serdar Karamus for 'Intentional Murder of His Wife' with a request for aggravated life imprisonment and for 'Purchasing, Carrying, or Possessing Firearms and Ammunition Without a License' with a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years.
The trial of Serdar Karamus continued today at the Karşıyaka 2nd High Criminal Court. In addition to the detained defendant Serdar Karamus, Gözde Karamus's mother Gülhan Madi, father Yüksel Madi, members of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, and the parties' lawyers were present at the hearing.
HAD PREVIOUSLY BEATEN HER WITH A CABLE
During the hearing, Gözde's coworker H.Y. was heard as a witness. H.Y. stated that Serdar Karamus frequently came to the store where Gözde worked, saying, "The defendant had come into the store many times and expressed his desire to talk to Gözde. I told him that they should not meet during working hours. When he first came, he had caused a disturbance. Gözde had said that she was assaulted by Serdar Karamus with a cable."
THE HEARING WAS ADJOURNED TO APRIL 15
After the witness was heard, an interim decision was announced. The court panel ruled to write again to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution to determine whether the defendant's mental health is intact, to continue the detention status, and to forcibly bring the absent witnesses, and adjourned the hearing to April 15.
