The lawsuit regarding the cancellation of the Istanbul Provincial Congress of the CHP, held on October 8, 2023, has concluded. The court ruled for the cancellation of the congress and decided to remove Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and his administration from their positions. Following the decision, Gürsel Tekin was appointed as the trustee for the Provincial Chairmanship, and a ruling was made to suspend all ongoing provincial and district congress processes.
DISTRICT CONGRESSES SUSPENDED ONE AFTER ANOTHER
In line with the court's decision, the first step came from the Ataşehir District Election Board. It was announced that the CHP Ataşehir District Ordinary Congress, planned for September 13, was canceled under the precautionary measure. This development was followed by similar decisions from the district election boards of Esenyurt, Sarıyer, Bakırköy, and Başakşehir. Decisions were made in these districts to not hold CHP congresses due to the precautionary measures.
CHP'S OBJECTION
In response to the consecutive cancellations, the CHP administration appealed the decisions and applied to the Supreme Election Council (YSK). The party requested the YSK's final decision to allow the ordinary congress process to continue.
YSK WILL MEET TOMORROW WITH THE CHP AGENDA
The YSK will convene tomorrow at 14:30 to evaluate the CHP's application. The fate of the ongoing 39th Ordinary Congress process in Istanbul will be clarified in the meeting. The decision made by the board will be final.
