An investigation has been launched against Özgür Çelik, the Istanbul Provincial Chairman of the CHP, on charges of "violating the law on meetings and demonstrations."
On January 31, an investigation was launched regarding CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, coinciding with the day when Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was summoned to testify at the Çağlayan Courthouse.
SUMMONED TO TESTIFY
The reason for the investigation was recorded as "Violation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations"; Çelik stated that he was called to testify by the Istanbul Police Department.
ÇELİK'S FIRST STATEMENT
In his first statement to Halk TV, Çelik said, "Officials from the Vatan Police Department called me and informed me that an investigation had been opened against me and about 20 of my friends, and that I needed to go there to give a statement. About 20 of my friends, including my own brother, our Istanbul Youth Branch President, and our comrades in various levels of the party, have all completed their statement processes."
