In the Kapıdağ Peninsula of Erdek district in Balıkesir, Elif Kumal (34), who is reported to have left the area with her vehicle after an argument with her boyfriend Enis G. (37) while camping, has not been heard from for 7 days. While 300 personnel are on duty in the field, the gendarmerie's tracking dogs are also being used in the searches. Searches have been intensified in the forest above the Yukarıyapıcı Pond. It has been learned that no results have been obtained from the examination of digital data while the investigation continues.
YOUNG PEOPLE CAMPING IN THE AREA REPORTED
While the search efforts continue, the young people who were camping in the area on the night Elif Kumal went missing recounted their experiences. The young people stated that they were camping about 2.5-3 kilometers away from the area where Elif Kumal was camping, down by the pond, with 5 friends on Saturday evening.
"WE HEARD GUNSHOTS, IT LASTED HALF AN HOUR"
One of the young campers recounted the events of that night with the following statements:
"That evening, on Saturday evening, we were camping with 5 friends a little further down, near the pond. Around 21:30, we heard quite a few gunshots; it lasted about half an hour. After the gunshots, music sounds came. Then around 23:30-00:00, a guy came running from here. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. He told us that a vehicle was missing and described the vehicle.
"HE ASKED IF A VEHICLE HAD PASSED"
He asked if a vehicle had passed. We said it hadn't. Then he turned back saying 'Oh man, oh' and walked away. After that, about 15-20 minutes later, I saw a yellow-lighted car going towards the Yukarıyapıcı road without passing by the pond next to us. Then again, about 15-20 minutes later, a white vehicle came. It was a vehicle with lights, off-road equipped. It also passed by us and again went towards the Yukarıyapıcı road for another 15-20 minutes. After circling around there, it came back, passed by us again, and left. So that's what happened."
"HE DIDN'T TELL US 'MY GIRLFRIEND IS MISSING'"
The young campers stated that they learned the next day that a woman was missing, using the following expressions: "The next day, we learned that his girlfriend was missing and that such an event had occurred. He didn't come to us and say 'my girlfriend is missing' or anything like that. If we had known that a woman was missing, we would have already left at the time of the incident."
The young people also expressed that no missing person report was made to them: "We had come with two vehicles. We were not given any information about a person being missing. Since he came running, we didn't think he had come from that far. The place we are currently in is their camping area. The place we camped is about 2.5-3 kilometers away from here. Since he came running, we honestly didn't think it was an urgent situation. After all, it didn't seem reasonable for someone to be running at that hour."
Meanwhile, on the 7th day of Elif Kumal's disappearance, search efforts continue with the participation of gendarmerie, police, underwater search teams, and volunteer non-governmental organizations under the coordination of AFAD. Search and rescue activities are ongoing on land, in the air, and underwater around the pond.
