Uğur İbrahim Altay, the Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the Maintenance, Repair, and Automation Center, which monitors pedestrian overpass escalators and elevators, as well as vehicle underpass drainage systems, lighting, buoys, and barriers 24/7 live, providing instant intervention for malfunctions, sets an example for Turkey.
Stating that Konya is a leader in smart urbanism, Mayor Altay said, “With the automation system we have implemented, we monitor the escalators, elevators, and vehicle underpasses at pedestrian overpasses 24/7 in real time, and in the event of a malfunction, we have the ability to intervene immediately from our system. This may not be noticed in daily life, but behind everything running smoothly in Konya, there is great effort and great intelligence. We will continue to make our fellow citizens' lives easier with exemplary smart city applications.”
The Maintenance Repair and Automation Center (BOOM), developed by Konya Metropolitan Municipality as an exemplary smart city application for Turkey, strengthens the human-centered service approach.

Stating that they use many technological devices to enable people living in Konya to continue their daily lives comfortably, he said, “The foremost among these are our escalators and elevators at pedestrian overpasses. With the automation system we have implemented, we monitor the escalators, elevators, and vehicle underpasses at pedestrian overpasses 24/7 in real time, and in the event of a malfunction, we have the ability to intervene from our system. This may not be noticed in daily life, but behind everything running smoothly in Konya, there is great effort and great intelligence. We will continue to make our fellow citizens' lives easier with exemplary smart city applications.”

Mayor Altay stated that they control all systems, from the lighting of vehicle underpasses to rainwater drainage, in this center, and said, “The most important thing here is the ability to communicate instantly and intervene from the center. Otherwise, when a malfunction occurs, someone needs to go and restart the system, or it may cause a person trapped in an elevator to have a panic attack. Here, by establishing a direct microphone connection, we can express that everything is under control, that the malfunction has been detected by us, and that our colleagues will intervene. Again, we have the opportunity to control especially escalator malfunctions from here.”

Mayor Altay, noting that they are trying to spread smart city applications in every field in Konya and that they are a leading city in this regard, said, “This provides us with great savings both in terms of cost and time. Our teams work intensively to ensure that life continues at a certain standard in our city. When there is a malfunction that our people do not notice, we try to detect the prominent situations beforehand and resolve them before the malfunction occurs. Our Maintenance Repair Automation System has also been implemented as an exemplary application for Turkey. I thank our colleagues who contributed to this effort.”

Thanks to the BOOM application, which stands out as the city's digital brain, critical systems are monitored in real time from a single center 7/24. With BOOM, critical infrastructure elements such as 98 elevators, 77 escalators, 53 vehicle underpass drainage systems, 62 generators, 226 pontoons and barriers, and various underpass and overpass lighting systems are tracked.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality, which sets an example with its applications that center on people, not just machines, maximizes the safety and comfort of Konya residents thanks to the BOOM system, which intervenes instantly in malfunctions.
