Deputy mayoral elections are being held today in the municipal councils of Ataşehir and Eyüpsultan. In Ataşehir, where the majority has passed to the People's Alliance due to 6 members changing parties and restricted members, the deputy mayorship is expected to pass to the AK Party, while in Eyüpsultan the CHP holds the majority.
Municipal councils in Istanbul’s Ataşehir and Eyüpsultan districts are holding extraordinary meetings with the deputy mayor elections on their agenda. While Ataşehir Municipal Council goes to the polls at 10:00 a.m., election work in Eyüpsultan Municipal Council will begin at 2:00 p.m.
POLITICAL BALANCES SHIFTED IN ATAŞEHİR
Critical developments took place before the election in Ataşehir Municipal Council. With 6 council members elected from CHP lists joining the AK Party, the distribution of members in the council changed radically. In addition, with the removal of Deputy Mayor Murat Güneş from office, the number of members whose right to vote in the CHP group was restricted rose to 3.
MATHEMATICAL SUPERIORITY PASSED TO THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE
According to the current picture before the election, Ataşehir Municipal Council has 17 CHP members, 16 AK Party members, 2 MHP members, and 3 independent members, 3 of whom are restricted. While the People's Alliance is represented in the council with a total of 18 members, because the 3 restricted CHP members will not be able to vote, the number of CHP members eligible to vote falls to 14. In line with the changed arithmetic, the deputy mayoralty post in Ataşehir is seen as certain to be won by the AK Party candidate.
CHP MAINTAINS ITS MAJORITY IN EYÜPSULTAN
In Eyüpsultan Municipal Council, another election address of the day, CHP's numerical superiority continues. In the council, where CHP is in the majority with a total of 22 members, the People's Alliance is represented with 14 members. The deputy mayoral election in Eyüpsultan will begin at 2:00 p.m.
