Vincenzo Montella's tenure with the Turkish National Team has ended after the team lost its last 4 matches in the UEFA Nations League. The Turkish Football Federation has begun its search for the vacant head coach position.
While it has been stated that the idea that the new head coach should be Turkish has gained weight, one of the first names to come to the fore was Arda Turan, who manages Shakhtar Donetsk.
NEGATIVE RESPONSE FROM SHAKHTAR DONETSK
According to a report in Sabah, the TFF made initial contact with Shakhtar Donetsk for Arda Turan to take charge of the Turkish National Team. However, the Ukrainian club conveyed to the federation that it does not look favorably on parting ways with the 39-year-old coach. Despite this development, it was claimed that the talks will continue and that the TFF continues to evaluate the Arda Turan option.
HIS CONTRACT WITH SHAKHTAR DONETSK CONTINUES
Arda Turan, who began his coaching career at Eyüpspor in 2023, led the Istanbul club to the TFF First League title in the 2023-2024 season, promoting them to the Süper Lig. The young coach, who took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk in July 2025, also experienced a championship in his first season with the Ukrainian side.
Shakhtar Donetsk, which has won 7 of the 8 matches it has played in the league this season, sits atop the standings with 1 defeat. The Ukrainian team drew with PSV in its first Champions League match. Arda Turan's contract with Shakhtar Donetsk will expire in June 2027.
