14-year-old Melisa B., who was reported missing, was found in Etimesgut, Ankara, following the emergence of a dowry offer and threats made to her family.
The family of 14-year-old Melisa B., who left home to visit her grandmother in Sultangazi, Istanbul, reported her missing to the police after they could not reach her. While search efforts were ongoing, a relative called the father and offered a bride price, saying, "My son wants to marry your daughter," and made threats. After days of concern, Melisa was found in a park in Etimesgut, Ankara.
THEY KIDNAPPED HER AND OFFERED A BRIDE PRICE
On February 14, Melisa B. went to her grandmother's house after getting permission from her mother. One day later, she was reported missing after leaving her grandmother's house. The family reported her to the police. Meanwhile, Melisa's father Aykut B. was called by his cousin's son. The caller said that Melisa was in a relationship with his son and that they wanted to marry her, offering to pay a 'bride price' if they accepted. The family claimed that Melisa was persuaded and kidnapped by relatives.
"HOW CAN A LITTLE GIRL BECOME A WOMAN?"
Mother Yağmur B. stated, "I haven't seen my daughter for 2-3 days. The ones who did this are not strangers; they are my husband's cousin's children. How can a little girl become a woman? I am a mother, you tell me. How can a little girl become a mother? You tell me. She said she would go to her grandmother's house around 9:00-10:00 PM. I allowed her, I said stay. I always sent her. She took her belongings and clothes. She deceived her friend, saying, 'I will go to the bathhouse with my friend Nisa.' They have tricked my daughter, they have put ideas in her head, 3-4 people come and kidnap her. They are escaping from in front of her grandmother's house. They said, 'They have been talking for a month.' My daughter is 14 years old and naive; how could she know, you tell me," she expressed.
"THEY ARE THREATENING ME FOR A BRIDE PRICE"
Melisa's father Aykut B. said, "They kidnapped my 14-year-old daughter and are threatening me. They called me and offered a bride price. My daughter was taken by Hamza B., Efe B., and Aslan G. Their fathers called me and offered a bride price. They are threatening me, saying, 'If you go to the media, we will harm you, we will harm your daughter.' These are my aunt's sons. The father of the kidnapper is my uncle's son. Mr. President, I beg you, save my daughter. They are offering me money. What father sells his daughter for money? They have taken my daughter. I have her name tattooed on my arm; she is my first joy. I want them to be punished. How can a 12-13-year-old girl get married? Justice should be served," he said.
FOUND IN A PARK
As a result of the police team's efforts, Melisa B. was found in a park in Etimesgut, Ankara. Work has begun to capture Hamza B. (19) and Aslan G. (18), who are said to have kidnapped Melisa.
