Özgür Özel was re-elected as the CHP Parliamentary Group Chair with 95 votes from the ballot box set up in the closed-door group meeting. The 15 deputies who did not participate in the voting conveyed their support to Özel. With this result, rumors of a rift within the party also proved unfounded.
The 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Appeal annulled the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP held on November 4-5, 2023, and the Istanbul Provincial Congress dated October 8, 2023, along with all their results. The court found the allegations of "distortion of will" and organized bribery in the congress process to be valid and decided to provisionally suspend Özgür Özel and his administration from duty. With this decision, it was announced that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the former administration would take over the duty.
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL ACTS IN THE TURKISH GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
Following the decision, while activity continues at the CHP headquarters, Özgür Özel took a new step for the parliamentary wing. Since Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is not a member of parliament, an election was held for the new administration within the CHP's parliamentary group. In the closed-session meeting, Manisa Deputy Özgür Özel was elected as the CHP Group Chair.
SUPPORT FROM 110 DEPUTIES
A total of 96 deputies participated in the vote. It was learned that 95 of the participating deputies voted for Özgür Özel, while 1 vote was deemed invalid. It was stated that 15 deputies who could not attend the meeting due to excuses also sent messages of support to Özel. Thus, it was reported that Özgür Özel received the support of a total of 110 deputies.
ÖZEL RECEIVED THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE HE WANTED
It was learned that 27 deputies did not attend the meeting without providing an excuse. While it was stated that some of the absent deputies were abroad, it was claimed that a significant portion consisted of names close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. According to sources, it was expressed that the main purpose of this move was to demonstrate Özgür Özel's support and vote of confidence in the TGNA group following the 'absolute nullity' decision.
