In a raid on an illegal confectionery workshop operating in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, 9 tons and 400 kilograms of jelly beans and various confectionery products were seized and found to be packaged under unhealthy conditions, leading to their destruction.
Confectionery and jelly beans, which children love to consume but are known to be harmful to health, were seized while being prepared in unsanitary conditions.
JELLY BEANS AND CONFECTIONERY IN UNSANITARY CONDITIONS In the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, the municipal police teams took action upon receiving a tip-off regarding an unlicensed business located on 18th Street in Zafer Neighborhood. During the inspection, it was revealed that production and packaging processes in the workplace were carried out under completely unsanitary conditions.
CHILDREN'S HEALTH DISREGARDED WITH ILLEGAL PRODUCTION After the situation was identified, teams from the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry were also included in the investigation. Authorities determined that the business did not have any official permits or approvals, and the production and storage areas used were far from health standards. Inspections conducted with food engineers revealed that jelly beans and various confectioneries consumed by children were packaged in inappropriate environments. Consequently, a destruction report was prepared for a total of 9 tons and 400 kilograms of products. Footage captured by the body cameras of the police teams showed that the products were stored and packaged in unsanitary environments.
The confectioneries loaded onto trucks by municipal teams were taken to the municipality's waste facility for destruction. The illegal business was sealed, and its activities were terminated. Esenyurt Municipality announced that inspections against businesses threatening public health would continue uninterrupted.
