In Eskisehir, fraudsters posing as police officers and prosecutors targeted 81-year-old H.I. They kept the elderly man on the phone, persuading him to pick up the female suspect posing as a police officer from the site entrance and take her to his home. As the suspect was preparing to take the gold at home, the plan was disrupted when his 8-year-old grandson wanted to see his father, and it became clear the father was coming home. Panicking, the woman fled without taking the gold.
An 8-year-old child's wish to see his father thwarted a fraud attempt targeting an 81-year-old man in Eskişehir. The plan of the suspects, who posed as police officers and prosecutors, ended when the female suspect who arrived at the house fled in a hurry.
INTRODUCED HIMSELF AS A "PROSECUTOR"
The incident occurred at a complex in Yaşamkent Neighborhood, Tepebaşı district. A person who called 81-year-old H.İ. on the phone introduced himself as a prosecutor.
The suspect told the elderly man that his name was involved in a theft case and claimed that the gold at home needed to be examined.
While the fraudsters kept H.İ. on the phone throughout the conversation, the female suspect, who introduced herself as a "police officer," was dropped off near the complex by a vehicle.
HE TOOK THE SUSPECT TO HIS HOME HIMSELF
The suspects, who could not bypass the complex's security system, directed H.İ. to the entrance gate. The elderly man met the female suspect there.
In the footage captured on security cameras, the woman is seen telling H.İ., "Uncle, look at the phone." Continuing to speak with the person who introduced himself as a prosecutor on the phone, H.İ. took the female suspect to his apartment in Block K-5, about 300 meters away.
ASKED FOR THE GOLDS, HIS GRANDSON RUINED THE PLAN
H.İ.'s wife and grandson were also at home. The woman, who introduced herself as a police officer, asked for the gold at home, saying they would check whether it was stolen property.
At that moment, the situation changed when the little child wanted to see his father, and it became understood that the father, S.İ., would be coming home.
The female suspect panicked upon learning that his father was coming. She quickly left the house without getting the gold and fled from the complex.
The woman's escape was also captured on the complex's security cameras.
EVERYTHING WAS REFLECTED ON CAMERA
Upon learning what had happened, S.İ. took his father, H.İ., to the police station and filed a complaint.
Site Management Board President Yüksel Işkın stated that no financial loss occurred as a result of the incident.
Işkın explained that because the suspects could not bypass the complex's security system, they called the elderly man to the gate and then tried to get the female suspect into the home through him.
The female suspect being greeted by H.İ. at the complex entrance and then quickly fleeing the area without getting the gold were recorded by security cameras.
