A 17-year-old girl, who was forced into marriage, was subjected to an honor killing attempt by her parents. In the incident, the father first tried to strangle his daughter, while the mother also attacked her. The incident at Timberline High School in Lacey began when the young girl ran away from home because she was being sent to Iraq. In her statement reflected in court documents, the girl said, "My father was threatening me with an honor killing because I refused to marry someone older than me." The girl, who sought refuge at school, saw her father Ihsan Ali's (44) truck while going to the bus stop with her boyfriend. Father Ali first argued with his daughter in Arabic, then punched her boyfriend. Other students subdued the father, who was trying to strangle his daughter. Meanwhile, the mother Zahraa Subhi Mohsin Ali (40) also joined the fight and attempted to strangle her daughter. After the incident, the mother and father were charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and assault. The mother was also charged with theft. The couple is currently being held in jail on bail amounts of $100,000 and $200,000. The father of the male student, Victor Barnes, claimed that the school did not take the necessary precautions. Barnes stated that two weeks ago, the family attempted to kidnap his son and received a ban from entering the school. The school administration announced that they take student safety seriously and will evaluate the situation. In the incident, the boyfriend of the young girl had his hand broken, while no clear information was provided about the girl's health status.
