The grave of Gülpaşa Aydın, who was buried in the New Cemetery of Esenyurt district of Istanbul in September 2022, has been vandalized approximately 20 times during the intervening period. His son, Erdem Kağan Aydın, who stated that he has repaired his mother's grave multiple times due to the ugly attacks carried out by unidentified individuals, mentioned that he has repeatedly warned the cemetery officials. Aydın noted that the person or persons responsible for the attack also damaged other graves in the vicinity and called for the authorities to take immediate action regarding this situation.
"I AM BOTH SADDENED AND CONDEMN THIS UGLY ATTACK"
Speaking about the vandalism of his mother's grave, Erdem Kağan Aydın said, "My mother passed away in September 2022. The vandalism has been ongoing every 2-3 months. Flowers on the grave are stolen, stones on it are taken away, and people walk on the grave. Similar vandalism is done not only to our grave but also to the surrounding graves, but it happens more to my mother's grave. I don't know if it is intentional. As a Muslim, I respect not only Muslim graves but all graves; they are sacred places for us. I am both saddened and condemn this ugly attack," he said.
"FLOWERS ARE BEING PULLED OUT, PEOPLE ARE WALKING ON IT, MARBLES ARE BREAKING"
Erdem Kağan Aydın stated that the grave has been vandalized approximately 20 times since 2022, saying, "The flowers on the grave are being pulled out, the landscaping of the grave is being destroyed, people are walking on it, stones on it are thrown to the ground, and the grave marbles are breaking. In the two years, I have counted 20 acts of vandalism. They do it every 2 months; we informed the authorities, but we have not reached a solution," he said.
