The Goyan tribe, one of the largest tribes in Şırnak, has made new decisions for weddings. The tribe, which imposed restrictions on 21 different topics from gold gifts to filming and orchestras, paved the way for young people to get married comfortably.
In Şırnak, municipal mayors, village heads, opinion leaders, and young people from the Goyan tribe in the Mendıkan region gathered and made new decisions for weddings. As wedding expenses have been increasing day by day and causing financial and moral harm to newlywed couples, the tribe members imposed new restrictions, creating a draft to prevent young people from being victimized, enabling them to marry. The 21-article decision will be applied in tribal weddings.
MAXIMUM 70 GRAMS OF GOLD WILL BE GIVEN The decisions are as follows:
"For the bride, a maximum of 70 grams of gold will be presented; during the engagement ceremony, only a ring will be given to the bride. No stage organization will be held during the proposal and engagement ceremonies. There will be no trips to hairdressers or external photo shoots outside the town or village. The maximum hairdresser fee will be 5,000 lira, the orchestra 40,000 lira, and the camera crew 30,000 lira. The proposal and engagement will take place on the same day, and the wedding will last one day. No tips will be put on the tray during the proposal, and no phone or extra ring will be brought for the bride. Each guest attending the groom will bring at least 500 lira. No convoy will be formed when going to pick up the bride from outside the village, town, or district; a maximum of five vehicles will go. The wedding or engagement dress will not be brought from outside; it must be purchased from local merchants. Those who do not comply with these rules will not be attended at their weddings in any way."
"WE DO NOT ACCEPT FALSE NEWS TARGETING OUR WOMEN" Young people in the district and towns of Uludere welcomed the decisions with joy and breathed a sigh of relief. Uzungeçit Town Mayor Sadık Yıldırım stated that thanks to their decisions, the previous expense of 2 million lira would now not exceed 500,000 lira. Yıldırım said, "As the Goyan tribe, new wedding decisions have been made in the Mendıkan region across our district and town. Thanks to these decisions, our youth can marry comfortably. Our tribe's area is very large; facilitating decisions for young people in weddings were made. In Uzungeçit town, with everyone's participation, important decisions were made for young people to marry. A decision to take 70 grams of gold was made. We said the bride and groom should not go far for external photo shoots. In both our religion and culture, we have imposed limitations on some matters to make it easier for young people to marry. In other respects, orchestra and camera crews were arranged with a suitable budget. In particular, trips for external photo shoots and outside the town, as well as things like mobile phone and scissors-cutting money, were abolished. We, imams, village heads, and villagers, made a joint decision. There were 50 weddings a year, and a serious expense was being made; we have prevented it. We do not accept false news targeting women. Paradise lies under the feet of mothers. Women always hold the most honorable place in our culture. On the contrary, the backbone of our culture is women. We did not make a decision like not leading the halay dance for our women at weddings. Our youth and women are valuable to us. We have never marginalized women; they are the crown of our heads. In every sense, women have a place above our heads. As the Goyan tribe, our women are very valuable to us," he said.
