The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into allegations that "personal data belonging to female students registered since 2001 at İzmir University of Economics has been unlawfully obtained and published."
OPERATIONS CONDUCTED IN 2 PROVINCES
As part of the investigation, simultaneous operations were carried out in Sakarya and Antalya regarding the crimes of "Unlawfully Obtaining or Disseminating Personal Data and Disturbing, Destroying, Making Unreachable Data in Information Systems and Inserting Data into the System."
3 PEOPLE DETAINED
In a statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that 3 suspects were detained during the operations and that the suspects' information systems and digital materials were seized. It was stated that the procedures for the suspects and the investigation are ongoing.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The photos of female students registered at İzmir University of Economics from 2001 to the present had been stolen by unidentified individuals.
VOTING UNDER THE HEADINGS "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL" AND "THE UGLIEST"
The photos were uploaded to a website and opened for voting under headings such as "the most beautiful" and "the ugliest." Additionally, the students' numbers were also shared on the website. Following this, the university administration filed a criminal complaint, and the website was shut down.
