A citizen in Isparta experienced the shock of his life after receiving an SMS from the natural gas company Torosgaz. The citizen learned that he had been issued a natural gas bill of 98,459 lira for his 150 square meter home and shared the situation on social media, bringing it to public attention.
Hüseyin Yıldızhan, who lives with his family in a 150 square meter apartment in Isparta, was shocked to receive a total natural gas bill of 98,459 lira and 47 kuruş from Torosgaz this month. Yıldızhan, who stated that he was greatly surprised upon seeing the bill, shared the situation on his social media account, bringing it to the public's attention.
A BILL NEARLY 100 THOUSAND LIRA ARRIVED
After the issue gained significant attention on social media, Torosgaz made a statement on its social media account. The company stated that the bill in question was due to an erroneous index entered during the meter reading. In the statement, it was noted that the error was detected by field personnel on the same day, and therefore the printed bill was not left at the address. Subsequently, Yıldızhan's bill was reissued by Torosgaz and reduced to 1,300 lira.
"I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW THE SMS"
Hüseyin Yıldızhan, who stated that the situation was an unacceptable error, expressed in his post that he was experiencing "the nightmare of his life" because of this bill. In a statement regarding the incident, Yıldızhan said, "While I was at home in Isparta, I received an SMS on my mobile phone. The message stated that my natural gas bill was 55,211 lira. I was shocked, I was at a loss for words.
The SMS indicated that the total bill was 98,459 lira, of which 43,248 lira was covered by state support, and the remaining 55,211 lira was charged to me. While the average natural gas bill I received at home in recent years was around 1,000 or 2,000 lira, the emergence of such an exorbitant figure astonished me. I thought there was a problem and shared the situation on social media. After my post, I saw that our citizens were also facing similar heating problems and high bills," he said.
"THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE OF OVERSIGHT AND COMPETENCE"
"I continued to follow the issue, and Torosgaz announced that it had rectified this error," said Yıldızhan. "However, since I had an automatic payment order, if I had not noticed this message, the 55,000 lira bill would have been automatically paid by my bank. It is unclear whether this error originated from the personnel or if the company did not adequately control this process, but it is evident that there is a serious issue of oversight and competence. There is an approach that does not protect the rights of citizens and does not carry out the necessary checks. We had already lowered the thermostat in the house to save energy and were sitting in thicker clothes. Despite this, the emergence of such a figure deeply affected us," he expressed.
"IF WE DO NOT DEFEND OUR RIGHTS, THESE ISSUES WILL BE FORGOTTEN"
Yıldızhan, who stated that the total bill amount was 98,459 lira and the state support was 43,248 lira, said, "The fact that state support is so high, meaning that nearly 78% of the bill is covered by the state, is another issue. Because ultimately, we citizens pay this money again through our taxes and bills. I want to emphasize that this aspect of the application is also wrong. If I had not noticed this message and it had been paid automatically, I would have been left to chase after my own money," he said.
"IF I HAD NOT FOLLOWED UP, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN"
Yıldızhan stated that when he later checked the bill through e-Government, he saw that the bill had been corrected. "Yes, I saw it, but this happened thanks to us bringing the issue to the agenda on social media and our objection. If I had not followed up on this issue and shared it, it would likely have been forgotten. Therefore, I believe our citizens should pursue their rights to the fullest. Otherwise, after a mistakenly paid bill through automatic payment, everyone may have to chase after their own money," he said.
