Hakan Çilingir, a father of two, tied a rope around his waist and entered a narrow tunnel dug 12 meters underground, but died when a sudden collapse occurred. After cordoning off the area, rescue teams reached the unfortunate man's lifeless body hours later, while the other 6 suspects involved in the illegal excavation were caught red-handed and taken into custody.
In the İnönü district of Eskişehir, Hakan Çilingir (42), a father of two, lost his life after the 12-meter tunnel they were digging for an illegal treasure hunt collapsed in the middle of the night in a house's garden. Following the incident, 6 suspects involved in the illegal excavation were taken into custody by police teams.
ILLEGAL EXCAVATION IN THE GARDEN AT MIDNIGHT
The incident occurred after midnight in the İnönü district. According to the information obtained, 7 people gathered together with the aim of searching for treasure entered the garden of a house they had their eye on without permission. Unbeknownst to nearby residents, the suspects descended meters deep and dug a 12-meter tunnel extending under the house.
TIED A ROPE AROUND HIS WAIST AND ENTERED THE TUNNEL
In the later hours of the excavation work, Hakan Çilingir, who was part of the group, tied a rope around his waist and entered the narrow tunnel. While Çilingir continued digging inside, a collapse occurred in the tunnel for an undetermined reason. Upon the notification by other suspects who saw their friend trapped under the soil, numerous health, fire department, AFAD, and police teams were dispatched to the area.
HIS LIFELESS BODY WAS REACHED HOURS LATER
Search and rescue and AFAD teams that arrived at the scene raced against time in the collapsed narrow tunnel. After hours of meticulous and intense work by the teams, the lifeless body of Hakan Çilingir, a father of two, was reached. While Çilingir's body was taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy procedures, the 6 people who carried out the illegal excavation with him were caught and taken into custody by police teams. A comprehensive investigation into the incident is ongoing.
