U.S. President Donald Trump made striking statements after the initial 18-hour round of talks in Switzerland. Trump announced that Iran has agreed to long-term and high-level nuclear inspections, stating that negotiations would not continue without this condition. Trump also declared that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open and that funds from sanction exemptions would be held in U.S.-controlled accounts.
US President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that Iran has agreed to comprehensive future nuclear inspections.
In his post, Trump said, "Iran has fully accepted the highest level of nuclear inspections indefinitely in the future. This will guarantee nuclear honesty. If they had not accepted this, there would be no other negotiations."
The statement came after US-Iran talks conducted in Switzerland in recent weeks. The US administration considers Iran's re-acceptance of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors as one of the most critical stages of the diplomatic process.
A NEW ERA FOR THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ
Trump also delivered significant messages regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which is strategically important for the world's energy supply. The US President stated that under the agreement reached with Iran, he has allowed the strait to remain open and will not impose a new naval blockade. However, he emphasized that the US Navy will maintain its presence in the region and that the blockade could be re-imposed if necessary.
One of the most important provisions of the agreement signed between the US and Iran is seen as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international trade and energy transport.
SANCTIONS EXEMPTIONS TO BE RELEASED CONTROLLED
One of the most striking topics in Trump's statements was financial regulations regarding Iran. Trump stated that the funds to be released by the US Treasury Department would not be directly made available for Iran's use. Accordingly, these resources will be held in escrow accounts under US control and can only be used for purchases of food and medical supplies. Trump said that these funds would be used to buy corn, wheat, and soybeans specifically from US farmers.
CAUTIOUS MESSAGE FROM IRAN
In response to Trump's statements, more cautious messages are coming from the Iranian side. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that inspections at nuclear facilities are subject to the country's national security mechanisms and parliamentary approval. It was also stated that it is not yet clear whether some facilities damaged in attacks will be opened for inspection.
Experts note that although the parties appear to have agreed in principle on nuclear inspections, negotiations continue on the details of implementation.
A STEP TO REDUCE TENSION IN THE MIDDLE EAST
As a result of talks mediated by Qatar and Pakistan in recent weeks, progress has been made between the US and Iran on critical issues such as the nuclear program, sanctions, and the use of the Strait of Hormuz. The parties are expected to continue technical discussions over the next 60 days for a more comprehensive agreement.
