Sources suggested that the Trump administration is discussing the possibility of conducting drone strikes against cartel members and their logistical networks with Mexico's approval. Among the claims is that drone flights could target individuals believed to be members of drug cartels, as well as vehicles, warehouses, and other logistical elements associated with these individuals.
UNILATERAL MILITARY INTERVENTION ALSO ON THE TABLE
Officials noted that a unilateral military intervention without Mexico's approval is also on the table, sharing that no final decision has been made yet. Furthermore, sources warned that a unilateral military move could lead to tensions in the relations between the two countries and jeopardize existing cooperation in areas such as migration and security.
U.S. DRONE OPERATIONS AGAINST MEXICAN CARTELS
It was claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) conducted secret drone flights targeting fentanyl laboratories belonging to drug cartels in Mexico at the end of February. Officials stated that the CIA does not have the authority to carry out lethal actions in its covert drone operations, and that the information gathered from these flights regarding the locations of cartel-owned fentanyl laboratories was shared with Mexican authorities.
