U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that countries have been reaching out to him to make trade agreements. "Countries are eager to make deals, they are kissing my ass," Trump said, asserting that the U.S. is making $2 billion a day from tariffs.
US President Trump, at a Republican Party dinner meeting in Washington, defended the additional tariffs, saying that countries were "kissing his ass" to make a deal with him. Trump stated, "These countries are looking for it, kissing my ass, they are desperate to make a deal. 'Please, please sir, let us make a deal, I will do anything, I will do anything sir,' they say."
REPUBLICANS BEGIN TO RAISE REACTIONS
In response to the rising criticisms of tax policies from within the Republican Party, Trump had discussed with businessman Elon Musk about halting the tariffs. Additionally, Bill Ackman, one of Trump's most important supporters on Wall Street, called for a 90-day suspension of the tariffs, warning that these tariffs could plunge the world into an "economic nuclear winter."
Trump claimed that the US was earning $2 billion a day thanks to the tariffs and stated that Japan and South Korea had sent delegations to the US to make a deal.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
On April 2, Trump signed a decree imposing additional tariffs on 185 countries. However, the tariff imposed on China rose to as much as 104%. With the additional 50% tax on products imported from China, the previous rate of 34% increased. The US's tariff policy initially shook Asian stock markets, then led to their recovery. On the other hand, there was a significant decline in the US stock market.
Trump noted that China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan were at the top of the list of countries subject to US tariffs, and that a 10% tariff had been imposed on some countries. Turkey is also among these countries.
