In a letter to the Prime Minister of Norway, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he no longer felt the obligation to "only think about peace" citing his failure to receive the Nobel Peace Prize; this statement was interpreted as a shift towards a tougher and more self-interested line in U.S. foreign policy. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado recently gifted her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump.
US President Donald Trump, in an unusual letter sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, criticized the fact that he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, stating that he no longer feels the obligation to "only think about peace." Trump emphasized his determination to prioritize his own interests in this message and hardened his approach to international politics.
WILL TAKE MORE AGGRESSIVE STEPS
Trump stated that he has argued for the need to take more aggressive steps to protect the strategic interests of the US, particularly by highlighting the Greenland issue. Pointing out that Greenland is critical from a security standpoint, Trump claimed that this is essential for American national interests.
"I NO LONGER FEEL THE OBLIGATION TO ONLY THINK ABOUT PEACE"
In the letter, Trump used the expression, "I no longer feel the obligation to only think about peace because you decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize," implying that he has shifted his foreign policy towards a more pragmatic and interest-focused line.
This development has increased diplomatic tension between the US and Europe. European Union and NATO partners expressed their reactions to Trump's aggressive stance on Greenland and calls for economic sanctions. European leaders described the threats as "pressure on allies."
"THE PEACE PRIZE IS AWARDED BY AN INDEPENDENT COMMITTEE"
Norwegian Prime Minister Støre confirmed that he received Trump's message and reiterated that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by an independent committee.
MACHADO HAD GIFTED THE AWARD TO TRUMP
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado had presented the Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump during a meeting held at the White House. Trump had stated, "It is a wonderful demonstration of mutual respect."
