U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran's enriched uranium must be completely destroyed. Trump demanded either the delivery of the uranium to the U.S. or its destruction on site under international supervision. The statement came amid ongoing diplomatic contacts to de-escalate tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Trump's remarks have brought the nuclear crisis debates between the two countries back to the forefront.
US President Donald Trump has brought the tension between Washington and Tehran back to the agenda with his statement regarding Iran's enriched uranium. Sharing on his Truth Social account, Trump argued that Iran's nuclear materials must be completely destroyed.
In his statement, Trump said, "Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Powder!) must either be delivered to the US immediately for destruction here, or preferably in cooperation and coordination with Iran; it should be destroyed on site under the supervision of the Atomic Energy Commission or an equivalent agency, or at another acceptable location."
"MUST BE DEFINITIVELY DESTROYED"
Trump's remarks came as diplomatic contacts between the US and Iran continue. While the US administration seeks to fully control Iran's nuclear activities, the Tehran administration argues that its uranium enrichment activities are for "peaceful purposes."
In his post, Trump emphasized that Iran's enriched uranium poses a security risk and stated that the process should be conducted under international supervision.
TENSION PERSISTS ON THE WASHINGTON-TEHRAN LINE
Recent military movements around the Strait of Hormuz and mutual statements had reignited tensions between the two countries. Following the US announcement of "defensive" operations against some military targets in Iran, Trump's remarks on uranium drew attention.
Experts assess that Trump's statements aim to increase pressure on Iran, noting that the future of nuclear negotiations will become even more critical in the coming period.
