After Hamas announced that it was ready to negotiate its Gaza Plan, Trump's statement that "Israel must immediately stop the bombardment of Gaza" surprised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It was reported that Netanyahu interpreted Hamas's announcement as a rejection of its plan.
The echoes of Hamas's announcement that it is ready to negotiate Trump's 20-point ceasefire plan in Gaza continue. Barak Ravid from the American site Axios stated on his social media account, citing an Israeli official who wished to remain anonymous, that "Netanyahu is surprised."
"HAMAS'S RESPONSE IS A REJECTION OF TRUMP'S PLAN"
The Israeli official emphasized that during the consultations held by Netanyahu in the time between Hamas's response and Trump's statements regarding that response, he assessed Hamas's answer as a rejection of Trump's plan.
In contrast, it was expressed that Israeli officials participating in the consultations viewed Hamas's response as a "positive reaction" leading to an agreement. It was noted that Netanyahu was surprised by Trump's statement while considering making a statement regarding Hamas's response in coordination with the U.S.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Hamas had announced that it accepted the prisoner exchange in President Trump's Gaza plan and that other points needed to be negotiated. In his statement regarding Hamas's response, President Trump said, "Based on the statement just made by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting peace. Israel must immediately stop the bombardment of Gaza so that we can safely and quickly extract the prisoners."
Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, which have been mediating regarding the plan, also expressed their satisfaction with the current stage.
President Erdoğan stated regarding Hamas's announcement, "What needs to be done now is for Israel to immediately stop all its attacks and comply with the ceasefire plan."
