The brown marmorated stink bug has started to be seen in large numbers in the Ferizli and Kaynarca districts of Sakarya. Especially in Ferizli, it has been observed that the bugs are covering the walls of apartment buildings, raising concerns among residents.
The brown marmorated stink bug, first seen in Turkey in 2017 in Artvin and Istanbul, has virtually invaded some houses in the Ferizli and Kaynarca districts of Sakarya.
STINK BUG CONTINUES TO SPREAD IN TURKEY
The invasive brown marmorated stink bug, native to China, Japan, and Taiwan, was first detected in Artvin and Istanbul in 2017 after spreading throughout America and then to all of Europe. Currently, this creature continues to be seen in 17 provinces in Turkey, and it can reproduce by attracting its kind with the odor it emits.
NEIGHBORHOODS IN SAKARYA INVADED BY STINK BUGS
The brown marmorated stink bug causes significant damage to hundreds of plant species, especially hazelnuts, leading to considerable losses in yield and quality. Even the samurai wasp, which is known to control its population, has been unable to stop the situation, turning the brown marmorated stink bug into a nightmare for producers.
This bug, which has been rarely seen in Sakarya for a long time, has started to reappear in the Ferizli and Kaynarca districts. The bugs, seen intensively on houses, schools, and walls, have caused concern among the residents.
