The recently self-proclaimed President of Venezuela, Donald Trump, made another controversial statement. Trump, who claimed to have saved NATO, said, "You must understand that I fully support NATO. I saved NATO. If it weren't for me, there would be no NATO right now."
U.S. President Donald Trump, while making statements regarding his controversial policies on the strategically important island of Greenland, which is associated with Denmark, also described his support for NATO as his own success. Trump claimed that he played a key role in keeping the alliance alive.
These remarks from Trump came at a time when discussions about the future of Greenland and NATO's role in regional security were reignited. Emphasizing the importance of Greenland for the national security of the U.S. and Europe, Trump stated that the U.S. needs to take action against the possibility of Russia or China seizing the island.
"WITHOUT ME, YOUR ALLIANCE WOULD NOT EXIST"
On the other hand, Trump, in his criticisms of NATO allies, suggested that he was the one who ensured the increase in defense spending, stating, "Thanks to me, NATO exists today; if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have an alliance today."
