U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is considering filing a lawsuit against Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for gross negligence regarding the expenses incurred during the renovation of the building, and stated that he would announce Powell's replacement in January. Referring to Powell as "a fool at the Fed," Trump said, "He should resign. It would be a favor to this nation."
U.S. President Donald Trump answered questions about current issues at a press conference following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida.
In response to a question about who will be nominated to replace Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term ends in May 2026, Trump stated that his favorite candidate has not changed and that he will announce it at the right time.
"THERE'S AN IDIOT AT THE FED"
Continuing his criticism of Fed Chairman Powell, Trump said, "There's an idiot at the Fed. Biden reappointed him. What a shame. You would think he wouldn't do that."
"THE GUY IS INCOMPETENT"
Claiming that Powell spent up to $4.1 billion on the renovation of the Fed building, which he described as "the highest price in construction history," Trump said, "We are considering suing Powell for gross negligence." Trump added, "The guy is incompetent, there's nothing that can be done. He's a very incompetent person, but we will probably sue him."
"POWELL SHOULD RESIGN"
When asked when he would announce the name of Powell's successor, Trump pointed to January. Additionally, when asked if he would ask Fed Chairman Powell to resign, Trump said, "He should resign. It would be a favor to this nation. But his term is almost up. I would love to remove him, but we are very close to the end of the term. Maybe I can still do it."
