Turkey: Daesh/ISIS, PKK Nexus Exposed Once Again

15.01.2021 15:12

3 terror suspects detained while they were fleeing to Greece on rubber boat.

New evidence has emerged on a nexus between the PKK and Daesh/ISIS terror groups, Turkish security sources said on Friday.

According to information from the Interior Ministry, border troops in Uzunkopru district of northwestern Edirne province on Jan.12 rounded up three people at the border while they were trying to flee to Greece on an inflatable boat.

They figured two of them had links to the PKK terrorist organization.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.

It was also understood that one of them was prosecuted for being a member of Daesh, the sources noted.

This exposed, once again, the nexus between PKK and Daesh, launched upon the orders of Murat Karayilan, a senior PKK operative, the sources said.

Turkey was one of the first countries to declare Daesh as a terror group in 2013.

The country has since been attacked by Daesh terrorists multiple times. The terror group has carried out at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks, killing 315 people and injuring hundreds more.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
