Due to climate conditions, the export of cocoa, which cannot be grown in Turkey, doubled during the 2021-2025 period, reaching 1 billion 664 million 947 thousand dollars last year and breaking all-time records.

Cocoa is grown in South America and Africa around the world. In Turkey, cocoa, which is being newly tried for hobby production in the Mediterranean region, has an indispensable place in the food industry, especially in chocolate.

ALL-TIME RECORD BROKEN FOR TURKEY

Turkey conducts cocoa trade in two ways: as raw and ready-to-use. The processing of cocoa in Turkey into final products with many areas of use and opening up to foreign markets is also reflected in export data.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), cocoa exports, which were 775 million 496 thousand dollars in 2021, rose to 942 million 577 thousand dollars in 2022, 1 billion 20 million 668 thousand dollars in 2023, and 1 billion 127 million 346 thousand dollars in 2024. Last year, the export figure reached 1 billion 664 million 947 thousand dollars, breaking the all-time record. Thus, a 114.7% increase in cocoa exports was observed during the 2021-2025 period. During this period, Turkey's total cocoa exports exceeded 5.5 billion dollars.

USA LEADS IN EXPORTS, IVORY COAST IN IMPORTS

When looking at the countries with the highest exports, it was seen that approximately 244 million dollars of the 1.7 billion dollars in exports made last year was to the USA. This was followed by Iraq with 175 million dollars, Iran with 102.8 million dollars, Saudi Arabia with 74.2 million dollars, and Russia with 69.5 million dollars.

When examining the countries from which imports were made, it was recorded that 567 million dollars of the total 2.2 billion dollars in imports made last year came from the Ivory Coast. This was followed by Ghana with 331.1 million dollars, the Netherlands with 297.8 million dollars, Germany with 143.6 million dollars, and Belgium with 122.6 million dollars.
