2 suspects in northwestern Tekirdag, western Manisa provinces held during operations.

Turkish security forces have confiscated more than four tons of bootleg alcohol in the northwestern Tekirdag and western Manisa provinces, security sources said on Wednesday.

As part of the operations targeting illegal alcohol production and distribution, gendarmerie forces captured 3,365 liters of bootleg alcohol in a house in the Yunusemre district of Manisa.

They held one person over allegations of producing bootleg alcohol.

In a separate incident in Tekirdag, gendarmerie teams seized some 550 liters of bootleg alcohol in Marmaraereglisi district. One person was also held in the operation.

Bootleg alcohol is made by using low-cost methyl alcohol instead of ethyl alcohol, which causes serious harm to human health and, in some cases, even death.
